A Van, a Crew and a Lot of Driveways
Wes learned auto glass in a Rapid City shop. After a dozen years he noticed that the best part of the job was the driveway visit, when the customer could walk out, see the work and ask questions. The worst part was the waiting room. So he put the glass, the tools and the urethane in a white van and started going to the customer. Today our crew of three has replaced more than 1,200 windshields and repaired over 3,400 chips, and Wes Tallman still books half the calendar himself.
The crew is small on purpose. Everyone who works on your car has done hundreds of windshields, and everyone can tell you what they're doing and why. We photograph the damage before we start and the work when we're done, and we write the safe drive-away time on your dash so there's no guessing. In 12 years Wes has seen enough cracked glass to know our crew would rather fix three chips than sell one windshield.
We still say no sometimes. If the wind is wrong, the cold is too deep or the glass won't fit the car, we'd rather rebook than rush. A good bond is worth the extra day. That's also why a lot of our work is chip repair: it costs you less, and it keeps the factory seal on your car.
Most of our calls come from neighbors of past customers, from Rapid City to Wall. That's the only marketing we've ever needed, and it keeps us honest on every car.
If the chip can be fixed, I'd rather fix it for under a hundred dollars than sell you a windshield. That's how we've grown: people tell their neighbors.
Wes grew up on the west side of Rapid City and learned glass in a shop before putting his own van on the road. He still runs most of the calibrations himself, and he spends his free summer evenings in a garden plot and on the Black Hills trails.
